Chemical Bonding MasteringChemistry

choose from: covalent, metallic or ionic
a) Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is used as a propellant in aerosol cans. What type of bonding occurs between the atoms of a CCl4 molecule?
b)What type of bonding occurs in iron(III) chloride, FeCl3?
c)What type of bonding occurs in a sample of pure sodium, Na? In other words, how is one sodium atom held to another sodium atom?
 1. Carbon tetrachloride is made of non metal elements. So compounds like those are covalent bonds. useless fact: (it is also used for making the frogs unconcious for animal disection)

 2. Iron III chloride is an ionic bond. You can tell by it being between a metal and non metal.

 3. Elemental metals are in metallic bond form. Their outer electrons dissociate from the atom itself and start flowing between atoms. This is why they easily conduct electricity. so remember it like this metal+nometal=ionic bond Nonmetal+nonmetal=covalent bond Metal elemental form= metallic bond 2 metals can be together not chemically and this would be called an alloy. its a homogeneous mixture.
